Patrol Division
Capt. W. G. Cooley Patrol Commander |
Captain W. G. Cooley is the Commander of the Centerville Police Department's Patrol Division. Captain Cooley is a former Marine and has over 24 years of military and civilian law enforcement experience. He is a certified accident investigator, Master SWAT Operator, field-training officer, general instructor, firearms instructor, and serves as the department training officer.
Twelve full-time officers currently man the Patrol Division, which is the heart of the department. These officers are the front line in fighting crime and upholding the laws of our community. If you call 911 for help, the first police officers to respond will likely be Patrol Division officers.
The men and women of the Patrol Division stand ready 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year, to answer calls for help ranging from life and death situations to courtesy services extended to the members of our community.
Patrol Division officers perform a wide range of duties, to include:
- Responding to the immediate emergency and non-emergency calls for service within the community
- Enforcing city ordinances, state laws, and federal statutes
- Preserving the public peace
- Preventing, detecting, and investigating crimes
- Protecting lives, property, and individual rights
- Apprehending and prosecuting offenders
In addition to our distinctive black Crown Victoria patrol cars, selected members of the Patrol Division also conduct Bicycle Patrols and ATV patrols during the busy warm weather months in key congested areas. The bicycles and ATVs enhance an officer's mobility and visibility in these areas, particularly during special events.
We expect our Patrol Division officers to exhibit the following character traits and/or attributes:
- Be knowledgeable, accountable, proactive, optimistic, dependable, respectful, professional, intelligent, courteous, and ethical
-
